Bolting new routes at Hemingshan
Driving about 2 hours out of Chengdu, takes you into green country side, with small mountains and hills all around. Green trees and tiny farms nestled into the hill sides cover this, and most days hanging thick over the top lies a blanket of clouds.
This was my second visit, I had been invited by a local outdoor company who provided free bolts, drill and equipment to me for helping them make routes. When we arrived it was cold and damp, we sat around drank tea and eat lunch. By the time we walked in the weather had got better and we did a few climbs and relaxed in the sunshine. After that I climbed an existing route. Traversed to the right and bolted on repel a short and easy route about F4-5. This took most of the afternoon.
Our drill was running on a generator we had carried up to the climb. The rock was very dirty and I pulled off a lot of earth and Loos rock as I cleaned and bolted the route. After that Lingdang climbed up and did a lot more cleaning. I gave the route to her to have the first assent as she wanted it to be called Lengdang.
In the evening we when back to the local restaurant / guest house we were staying in. We eat dinner and talked into the night. The next day when we woke up it was raining hard. I thought we would go home but we did not. We went out anyway just 5 of us; we made a fire and spent most of the day under an overhang of rock in a small broken temple. We cooked steamed bred on sticks and as I had made a route yesterday it was someone else’s tern and they spent the whole day drilling in the rain.
So quite a good trip. Two new routes, good company and good fun.
