Yangshuo, China 2007
I arrived Yangshuo at 5:15 AM. It was still dark and the derty streets I had seen last year were now clean. The only people I sore were the road cleaners and the people trying to sell there hotels. I walked to the river and got some Soya milk and fried sticks on the way. I took pitchers as the sun came up over the li river.
I new where to stay and at 7:00 AM I checked in to Karst Hotel.
For the next 3 days I rode a bike around and looked for climbers! I lost my sunglasses in China climb and did not find many people to talk too, and no climbers anywhere!
I went and sat by the Li river again. A man came and asked if I could help him with his English. He was a Chinese teacher and he wanted help with his web advertisement. I said yes, I had nothing else to do. I did this and got his card. I wanted to start studying Chinese and thought he would be a good contact.
The next afternoon I sat by the river again. I talked to lots of people practising there English; lots of Chinese come to Yangshuo to learn.
I also found some climbers at last. Two days later I new lots of people. I was teaching English, climbing lots and starting to learn a little Chinese.
Everything was getting better and better. I was starting to feel strong finally after my time in India. Then as happens to most who stay for a bit, my social life took over and climbing disappeared from my thoughts, I was lost in culture and loving it. I still manage to bag Over The Moon, 5.12 d or 7b+ Very happy, my favourite sport climb ever. I was having such a good time and really did not want to go back to Hong Kong anymore. But as most good things do, this came to an end very quickly and off I went to Hong Kong. But I was happy, I had made lots of new friends and done lots of climbing.
So fare well Yangshuo till I can come again.
